Time

The most common complaint students make about standardized exams is that they struggle to finish the test. in each tutoring session time-pacing techniques are shared and practiced.

After graduating from Stevens Institute in Hoboken, I started my technical career as a wireless engineer living in Greenwich Village. Fifteen years ago I decided to try to my hand at teaching high school. I fell in love with the day to day reality of training the next generation of problem solvers by introducing them to the wonderful world of mathematics. As nerdy as that might sound, I have seen math in action in professional settings and with students. I’ve seen the breakthrough moments people have when concepts they’ve struggled to understand suddenly make sense.

Decades after graduating from Stevens, I’m happy to find myself back in Hoboken raising a son along with my husband and sharing these experiences of discovery with students in my classroom and my one-on-one tutoring.

Our students have been admitted to some of the areas best private schools & our nation’s finest universities, including

Kathleen truly changed my daughter’s trajectory and attitude about math. After each session our daughter saw appreciable increases in scores in the ACT and her class test scores. More importantly she was able to listen, assess where my daughter needed help and explain concepts in ways her math teachers at school were not doing. It gave my daughter confidence that she was capable of being good at math. We could not have been any happier and would highly recommend her to anyone.

Kathleen was amazing in helping my 8th grade son to prepare for the ISEE. With her help, he was able to make a huge improvement in his test score and her tutoring also helped improve his math grade in school!

Kathleen is a wonderful tutor. Patient and so kind to my almost 10 year old son. She was helping him prepare for a standardized entrance exam for middle school. She was low stress but highly effective and organized. She knew the test material well and designed a very strategic plan to get him ready. Highly recommend.

Kathleen helped my 8th grade son prepare for a high school math placement test. She came well-prepared with lots of material, having researched exactly what topics would be covered on the specific test he was taking. She was thorough and clear in her explanations, and offered positive feedback and praise often. Overall the whole experience was very positive. My son was eager and willing (mostly), and went into his placement test confident that he had a good grasp of the material. I would highly recommend Kathleen as a math tutor.

For 15 years I’ve had the privilege of teaching, tutoring and mentoring math students ranging from high schoolers who are struggling with class work or preparing for standardized tests to elementary students working on improving their grades.

In that time I’ve discovered that both students and parents …

  • Deal with tremendous stress and fear surrounding the subject

  • Have real insecurities around elements of the topic that they believe they “should” understand but don’t.

My approach is centered on helping students feel comfortable and empowered to ask any and all questions in order to identify the areas they need the greatest help understanding.
